Reported problems and solutions
As can be expected with a very widely updated version of RISC OS, users have reported a number of apparent problems with either the RISC OS Six Installation process or when running RISC OS Six. Whilst RISC OS Six has received extensive Beta testing, the Select scheme is by its very nature designed to provide software for end users to test at the earliest opportunity. We therefore do not recommend running RISC OS Six on any mission critical computers. In particular we recommend that you have taken a full backup of your data before installing RISC OS Six.

The Filer crashes when attempting to open a filer window with greater than 255 files in it, when the computer has 256MB RAM, or more, fitted or configured.

I Can't set a large screen mode on Virtual RPC when running RISC OS 6.06. It only works as if 2MB VRAM was fitted.
Access Violation 206 error when installing on Virtual Acorn
Some users have reported this error when attemping to install RISC OS Six on Virtual RPC-Adjust SA running on Windows XP SP2. The issue has been reported to Virtual Acorn who are investigating. If this error occurs it will not be possible to install RISC OS Six at present. A possible solution has been suggested that the current user may not have Administrator rights under Windows XP. If so then check under the "Users" control panel to see if the current user has Administrator rights.

Impression causes an "Abort on Data Transfer" error when trying to save a file by the F3 enter method
This error is caused by the incorrect interaction between Impression and the RISC OS Six ABIModule. A workaround is to either use the F3 and click on OK, or F3 and drag file to directory to save options. It is the handling of the F3 and enter method which causes the error. This issue is open as to whether it is a bug in ABIMod or whether a patch to Impression will be required in a future release of RISC OS Six.

Iconbar is not brought to the front when the pointer is moved to the bottom of the screen
This can be caused by configuration options on other applications. It is not a bug in RISC OS Six. Typical examples of applications which can cause this problem are !Floating desktop clock - "Bring to top ..." option.

!Edit is still reporting itself as an old version (pre 2007)
!Edit is now back in ROM on RISC OS Six. So any older versions which used to be softloaded should either be deleted or moved to somewhere where they are not seen on Bootup.

s Kinetic card is only displayed as being a StrongARM when RISC OS Six starts up.
This is a known bug in RISC OS 6.06. The Kinetic operation of the card is not affected. It is just the identification banner which is incorrectly displayed. This issue will be resolved in a future release of RISC OS Six.
Can't connect to a Windows Vista shared hard drive using LanMan or Omniclient
The new security features in Windows Vista appear to block any login attempts to shared folders on a Vista machine.
We are looking at ways to try and circumvent this problem. The best workaround at present is to enable the Windows Vista computer as an FTP server.

Filer truncation option doesn't work correctly when set to 256 OS Units
To avoid the full screen width being displayed when a very longfilenenamed file is present, set the Filer Truncation to 252 OS units. This issue will be resolved in a future release of RISC OS Six.

The Filer crashes when attempting to open a filer window with greater than 255 files in it, when the computer has 256MB RAM, or more, fitted or configured.
RISC OS 4.39 exhibits this problem when used with a Virtual Risc PC. This issue has been resolved in Select 4i4.

I Can't set a large screen mode on Virtual RPC when running RISC OS 6.06. It only works as if 2MB VRAM was fitted.
RISC OS 6.06 exhibits this problem when used with a Virtual Risc PC. This issue has been resolved in Select 4i4.

Reporting Problems
RISC OS Six and the Select 4 installer have a number of features built-in to help with diagnosing problems.

Please remember that because an application ran under RISC OS 4, it does not unfortunately mean that it will run under RISC OS Six because of the improvements that have been made to prevent invalid memory accesses and other invalid operations that previous versions of RISC OS incorrectly allowed.

Before reporting an error please check the following:-

1. That when you upgraded that you performed a delete power-on to reset the CMOS settings prior to starting the installation.
The reason for this is that if you run with any modules unplugged in previous versions of RISC OS then the wrong module will then be unplugged when RISC OS Six is in use. Press F12 and type *unplug to see if any modules are unplugged before reporting an error. For example if your CD drive doesn't appear to work on RISC OS Six, check that none of the CDFS modules are unplugged. To restore a module press F12 and type RMREINIT (modulename) e.g RMREINIT CDFS.

2. To check on what errors have occurred during startup you can use the command *DMESG from the command line.
