Hi Robert, I am a lexicographer, a student of words, who is trying to get the word "volumous," which is not really a word, out of our language. Wouldn't you rather say "voluminous" when you are trying to be impressive? Just pronounce the two words. Which one sounds better? In fact, if you want to be precise, the word to use is "extensive." Please help me get rid of this word "volumous." If you heard it on TV or the radio, wouldn't you just want to giggle? The person who started this usage probably was drunk or a bad typist. They also were quite influential, as Google now has nearly 2,000 references to "volumous," including a brand of mascara! Still, Webster's Dictionary contains no references at all to this word. Please help the English language...before it is too late. Here is the address of the page in question: http://bbc.nvg.org/files.php3 "BBC software archive Enter the software archive! Here are some of the most volumous and popular ones, followed by the directories catering for more specific needs: " Sincerely, Julie Snyder
